AFTER I PASS THE MICHIGAN BUILDERS LICENSE TESTS . . . THEN WHAT?

When you have passed both halves of the required examination, you will receive your passing score report in the form of a license application. Read the instructions carefully. Complete the license application carefully and completely. Submit all documentation for licensure within one year from your original examination registration date together with applicable fees. You will have to submit documentation of ownership, ie: an assumed name certificate or partnership certificate from your local County Clerk's Office or your Articles of Incorporation if you are a Corporation. You will also have to have a credit reporting agency send a credit report directly to the Department. Don't worry . . . you don't need good credit. They will be looking for outstanding court judgements and criminal felony fraud convictions. Your license application will be processed and your license will be sent to you.

WHAT ABOUT A "SALESPERSON" OR "M&A" LICENSE?

SALESPERSON LICENSE TEST

A licensed salesperson must be in the employ of a licensed builder. To become licensed, you must pass the Salesperson examination which consists of 50 multiple-choice questions. You will have 1 1/2 hours to complete the test. Our Home Study Course covers all of the material that you will be tested on. Most of the Salesperson study material is located in the Business/Law half of the Course.

MAINTENANCE and ALTERATION CONTRACTOR LICENSE TEST

This license allows you to work in ONLY the specific trade or trades for which you have been licensed (individual trades are listed below). If you decide to add another trade(s) to your M & A license at a later date, you must register for the examination(s), submit the proper fee, receive a passing score on the trade examination(s), and file an Add-On-Trade license application to add the desired trade or trades. The new trade(s) will be added to your license and an updated license will be mailed to you by the Department.

Before applying for your M & A license you must pass BOTH the Business/Law examination and the Individual Trade Examination(s). Each trade examination includes from 25 to 50 scored multiple-choice questions as follows:
